FRAPS Frag Movie tutorial
Setting up FRAPS
You must login or register to view this content.
Firstly, you need to set your copy of FRAPS up to record at Full Size, 30fps, and to record sound.
Once you have set up your FRAPS software like in the image, you can open CoD4 and get ready to record the demo you want. When you are about to record, type into the console " /timescale 0.25 ". This will make the footage run by at quarter speed. For this method to work, you need to be getting 30fps constant when you record with FRAPS, otherwise it won't come out as smooth. Once you have your AVI file recorded, its time to open Vegas.
Getting started in Vegas

Open up Sony Vegas and drop the file you have just recorded onto a Video layer. If you preview it here, you will see it runs in slow motion, and the sound comes out slowed down and horrible. This is what we will be fixing next.
Setting Playback Rate
You must login or register to view this content.
From here on in it can get a bit complicated, so this is where you need to be careful to follow correctly. Right click on the video part and click Properties. You will see a section that says "Playback Rate". Change this to 4.0.

The video will now play 4 full times in the space it did play one, which is what these little triangles on the top of the video part are. Drag the video to the first little triangle, so that it only plays once. If you preview it now you will see the video comes out smooth, but the sound will sound horrible. This is the last part we need to fix.

Click on the end of the video and write down what the timer says EXACTLY. We will need this to lock the sound to the new length. Press UNDO and the video should go back to before you dragged it shorter, with the 4 little triangles on it. Once it has, we are ready to fix the sound.
Locking the sound
You must login or register to view this content.
Right click on the sound part of the video and click properties. On the dialog box that appears, you should see a drop down menu which at the moment will say 'None'. Click on this and change it to 'Classic'. A series of fields will then come up. In the New Length field with a time in it, write in the new time EXACTLY as it displayed in the previous step. (Format is 00:00;00, so if it is now 9.16 seconds, it will be 00:09;16) Click the Lock to Stretch tick box next to Pitch Change, and the number next to that should change. Aim for 24.0000, as this means no frames have been dropped and it is at full smoothness and sync. If it is a little lower it doesnt matter, no lower than about 23.97 though.
Drag the video back to match the length of the sound layer, and preview. You now have a smooth, high quality video with none of the hassle of re-rendering in Virtualdub!
