yeah, just like duplicate your background and erase the parts over the focal is an easy way.

The text I made in Illustrator and exported over. I went back and took of the render and applied the image so I could erase off edges. Then did some burning and smuding. Once done I desaturated the whole image and recolored it. Finally went back and added some color with a black brush and the overlay setting.
