you can but i wouldn't recommend playing without splitters it's so laggy, well for me it was.

/facepalm that's not the problem it's that without av splitters it's laggy because the dvd recorder or dazzle or whatever takes a second or what ever to process it.

don't play from the recording source. when using splitters have 1 side go to the recorder and have the other side go directly to the tv. you will not see any lag as you say.
