I would do it by adding more smoke, then decreasing the opacity.

The red doesnt really go with it, but its good.

I actually like the red, it adds a nice contrast to it, but I think it needs to be fixed. I would put the red layer under the text layer as I will agree I don't like it blending over the text. Also, put the lens flare lighting effect higher on the left side so it is even with the other side to add more balance, imo. I love what you did with the lighting effect with the lens flare, it looks really clean. The text is some-what basic, but not too boring or amazing, great job putting a border around it (I love border outlines around text). Also, I agree with Luke in the reply above, follow his instructions and the smoke/cloud look should look even better! The background will probably look better with these small improvements. But great start and good luck!
