Does he need to phone up orange asking for internet settings.

I think you need the Data plan to use the internet in the way he is talking about.

I don't know how you would get the Data plan for a pay as you go phone. I would try calling the service provider you have with the phone for any questions regarding that.

call orange and tell them to add blackberry internet service.
it will cost £5 per month, which will be taken from the pay as you go credit.
Ive done the same for the blackberry pearl.
You have to pay for the BBm, and you get internet on the phone.
Its actually cheaper to get onto a contract for £20 PM.
