Absolutely, although there are different models of the Galaxy S (EU, US and another variant).

My friend got one and I got straight to work Root'ing it to unlock it for him, it took a while and after about 2-3 hours and trying different Root'ing software, then eventually I found one and it literally took about 15-20 seconds and about 2-3 mouse-clicks and I had an unlocked Galaxy S Smile

If one program doesn't work, look for another and eventually you'll find one that will do it for you, good luck!

I have successfully rooted 3 Captivates (AT&T version). Refer to this thread, it has everything that you would need to know about rooting it. It is a fairly easy process compared to other phones. Just be sure you understand what you are doing before trying it. Also you did not specify which version of Galaxy S. I am pretty sure that the same app will root all of them, but I personally cannot verify that.

Looking into the i9000 you could have two possible versions of Android which would change how it would need to be done. You want to make sure you use the method that was designed for the version of Android you are running. I suggest you read through the forums for that specific phone. The first thing you need to do is find out what version of Android you are running. To do this on the home screen press the menu button and select settings. After that I believe you go to about phone. It should either say Android 2.1 or Android 2.2. That will help you determine which app to use for sure.

With all the being said this link appears to be the app that will take care of your phone. I suggest you read through the thread for any possible problems just to be safe.

Edit: Forgot to answer your other question. The link you provided seems ok, but I would personally stick with the XDA threads because that is typically where all these kinds of things are created and tested.
