Post: My newest build and a question on GPU's
11-11-2012, 08:16 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Newest build I've been piecing together... As follows
NZXT Phantom PHAN case (Black with blue fans)
Corsair 750w PSU
Intel i7 3770K 3.5Ghz Quad Core (currently safely overclocked to 4.1 Ghz after turbo boost crap)
Asus Sabertooth Z77 motherboard
G. Skill - 16 GB DDR3 1866 OC RAM
(Currently) 500GB Seagate
MSI DVD Burner
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Stuff still in works
A SSD atleast 64GB (For OS only)
A 1TB or 2TB Western Digital Black
A aftermarket Heatsink of some sort... Haven't fully decided here yet (no watercooling for me)
GPU/GPU's

NOW, onto my question. I plan to run atleast 2 or 3 monitors on this machine.
Would it be better to get 1 graphic card or get 2 graphic cards?
If I get one GPU, I plan on either getting a nVidia GTX670 FTW or 680...
If I get 2 GPUs, I wil more than likely be getting 2 nVidia GTX 660Ti's.... Now which would be more appropriate for me to get?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

price is getting very close between 670 and 680s now so for $50 more its a dead decision get the 680, for price wise if you get two 660-ti's their getting cheap now think i seen one going for around $250 with factory clocks and vram. so getting two of those could end up being cheaper heatsync cant really help you there and if your just getting a 64gb ssd just to see a boost in loading time alone imo isnt worth paying the $40-100 for a 64gb ssd you wont have to much room for more then a few apps just keep that in mind

Go for one 670, with the option to add another in the future. The 660Ti cards were disappointing to say the least. If you really want to go down the dual cards path now, pick two 7950s rather than two 660Ti's

i own a 660-ti and it does very well it is a 670 its just got a section locked from being used which is the cut back bus width so to get a 670 and comment a 660-ti is disappointing when its basically the same card is dumb if he has the budget a 680 or a 7970 would well out perform a 660-ti,670,7950 or sli setup and from what ive heard of 660-ti's is using dual sli on most games they mess up and you get extreme lag from it which is a risk using sli on two cards

Of course a 680/7970 is the better card. However I don't think the 680 is worth the extra 100$. Both cards perform superbly and you only gain a few extra frames, so therefore most agree its not worth the extra 100$. I didn't mean the card was a disappointment in that its a bad card, its just not a card that hugely warrants a purpose. The 660 delivers performance just under that of the Ti version, but is 80$ cheaper. The 7950 is in the same price category as the 660Ti but outperforms it.

So therefore I suggest one 670 which is plenty of power, with the option to add another 670 in the future, or crossfired 7870/7950s whichever he can afford. However for triple monitors dual cards are advised, not required, but advised.

PS. What is it with people and grammar in this section?

it looks good end if you need highend just get 1 gtx 680 instead of 2 660ti then u won't need the drivers 4 sli and and a corsair h80 for you cpu and a larer hardrive and ssd and it looks good.

the 660-ti and 670 have the same vram and cuda cores , also 660-ti benchmarks show it going above a lot of amd cards and above 670's this of course overclocked mind you thats why i do not see a 670 as a option to suggest to people anymore its to close to a 660-ti imo also my badwidth on my 660-ti is around 170gbps way above stock 144 is stock 670(192)
