(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); hey guys, to start off I have Astro A40's. And to get the most out of them, you need a soundcard that supports dolby digital live. Is it worth buying a sound card, will I notice a difference?

I'm thinking of buy this one, as I've read nothing but good things.

TLDR; Is it worth spending $80 on a sound card for gaming.

I have Trittons but I just use the USB for my audio. I don't know too much about Astro A40s even though I was thinking about buying a pair. But I don't think you'd need a sound card to use em. But if I'm wrong and you do in the end it's all up to you if you decide to get a sound card to use them.

It really depends on how well the a40's simulate the surround sound.
personally I wouldn't bother shelling out the extra money for just a40's.

But if you are planning on ever getting a proper speaker setup on your computer, the sound card will work wonders.

Almost forgot. From what I have heard the Xonar cards are the best you can get for price and I also haven't heard any complaints about them. If you do decide on getting a sound card; that card is definitely the way to go.

actually unless you work with professional audio a soundcard isn't needed

like tokiinz said most motherboards now come with really decent integrated sound chips compared to say 5-8 years ago and for performance boost in games you wont see anything worth bragging about if any at all , sound cards are really only useful if your computer case has a shit audio port and you need a high quality port that you dont get a fuzzy sound from like in my case

You don't really need a sound card unless you work in the music industry or are a serious audiophile. From the looks of it, you're using your Astros to play video games. In that case, a sound card is not needed.

Pointless if you have a up-to-date motherboard sound cards are useless.

I wouldn't doubt it. I'm just too lazy to plug my optical cable into the back of my pc :p
