Post: Need a little help on upgrading

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I built my first computer last spring (for my birthday), and I made the mistake of cheaping out and buying an fx 6100 and a cheapy motherboard (GA-78lmt-s2 rev 1.1). Now that I have a job, I am thinking about upgrading my motherboard and cpu to an intel based machine. As of now im looking at the i5 4670k (You must login or register to view this content.) and the Asus Gryphon z87 (You must login or register to view this content.). Would this be a good upgrade, or is there a better option? I am looking to stay around $400.

My specs now:
Gigabyte GA-78lmt-s2 rev 1.1
Radeon HD 7870 Iceq 2gb
Amd fx-6100
8gb DDR3 Ram

In gaming a fx6100 is on par with a i5 so the logical upgrade is a ssd and a 280x

Really? I play a lot of cpu intensive games such as planetside 2, arma 3, total war: Rome 2. Would you still recommend a new gpu and ssd than a cpu and motherboard upgrade?

Should be fine but a ssd and a gfx card upgrade makes more sense from a overall standpoint, then sell your 7870 for about $120 if your in the us and buy a 990fx motherboard and a hyper 212 and overclock your fx6100 to 4ghz

For the motherboard is there a certain brand that's better? The gigabyte one is way cheaper.
