I am considering adding a second graphics card to my computer so I can dual screen without effecting my performance. All I am looking for is to have my render up on my computer monitor and and have the tv (right next to the computer) play movies or go on the internet.
My question is, do I need another same stat gpu for the tv or can I have less expensive get-the-job-done graphics card (~$100) without hindering performance too much.
My current gpu is the EVGA GeForce GTX 680.
Thanks for any and all responses!
Does the software you use support cuda rendering? If so then make sure you are using that. When you say rendering do you mean video or 3d models?
In most cases if you are rendering video then something like intel quicksync works pretty well, all you need is an i series CPU that supports it.
Short of that you may want to consider a workstation card if you are rending big projects because I don't think putting 2 680's in sli will offer that much of an improvement. I could be wrong but I use quicksync over cuda for video rendering just because it shaves some time off.
I have an intel 2600k and 2 GTX 580's and I can usually multitask just fine without it increasing the time. And again that's with all the work being offloaded straight on quicksync
