Sony has blogged some details for the PlayStation Portable firmware 5.50 update, and on the whole it seems to be further merging the PlayStation 3 and PSP interfaces. In corporate speak we call that "synergy." The update will include a new Information Board, which you PS3 owners know as the scrolling news ticker in the corner. It also adds an internet search for games, similar to the one recently added to the PS3 with firmware 2.7. Selecting the Internet Search option from a game icon brings up results for that particular game.
Other new features include some enhanced memory stick support, with the ability to create sub-folders and a reduction in the required space to download from the PS Store directly to the memory stick. Finally, the update includes a free trial of security programs from Trend Micro. One blocks phishing sites that attempt to steal personal information, and the other keeps the younglings from looking up inappropriate (read: porn) content.
