Just do NOT go more than 10 miles away from where the game last thinks you were, otherwise you'll end up with a 45min - 1 hour 'soft ban', where no poke'stops will work and all pokemon will run away from you instantly.

Multiple soft bans are rumored to result in a perma ban so use caution.

Are you told when you are banned?

No but you know when you are. Pokestops don't work, and pokemon instantly run and are un catchable.

Longest soft ban I've had was 1 hour.
