It's no secret that Zombie games are one of the most successful franchises of the Gaming industry. It appears that Rockstar's latest smash hit Red Dead Redemption will be getting it's own taste of this highly acclaimed game-mode:

The 'Undead Nightmare' DLC Package will feature a brand new Single Player 'adventure', 8 new multiplayer zombie Characters, new NPC enemies will be added to the world and more. This DLC pack will release at some point in Autumn (I.e. Late Autumn/October-September).

The first DLC pack for Red Dead Redemption has already hit earlier this month and Rockstar's current plans mean that all four DLC packs will be gradually made available by the end of Autumn. Rockstar tell us they want to greatly expand and improve the game from as it currently stands.

Without further ado, here are the contents and dates of the DLC packs:

Legends and Killers Pack; Release Date: Beginning of August

Tagline: New active map locations, characters and more.

Content:

9 new multiplayer map locations.

8 new multiplayer characters from 'Red Dead Revolver'.

The Tomahawk: A new projectile weapon. Challenges for this gun will be available in Single Player and Multiplayer.
(sounds like a fun thing to attack Dreamy's horse with =D).

Additional achievements and trophies.

Pricing: $9.99/~£7 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).

Liars and Cheats Pack; Release Date Unconfirmed

Tagline: New competitive modes, multiplayer mini-games in Free Roam, and more:

Content:

Attack and Defend multiplayer competitive mode and challenges.

New multiplayer horse races, complete with mounted combat (presumably GTA-esque).

8 additional multiplayer characters. Presumably previously NPC's from the information:
'The heroes and villains of Red Dead Redemption'.

Multiplayer gambling: Liars Dice and Poker from single player will be playable with friends.

A new weapon: The Explosive Rifle; Challenges for this gun will be available in Single Player and Multiplayer.

New Achievements and Trophies

Pricing: $9.99/~£7 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).

Free Roam Pack; Release Date Unconfirmed

Tagline: Delve deeper into the world of Red Dead Redemption with new modes, challenges and gang hideouts to discover:

Content:

Additional Free Roam Challenges.

Posse scoring and leaderboards.

New anti-griefing measures in Free Roam (looks like the Tomahawk won't be as fun anymore :()

Pricing: To Be Confirmed

Undead Nightmare Pack; Release Date: Sometime in Autumn

Tagline: Ghost towns and cemeteries come alive in a West gone horribly wrong.

Content:

Brand new single-player adventure, challenges and quests.

8 new multiplayer zombie characters.

Additional animals unleashed in the world.

New dynamic events and more.

Pricing: $9.99/~£7 (PlayStation Network), 800 Microsoft Points (Xbox LIVE).

This DLC scheme is definitely exciting and while I've never played Red Dead Redemption I'm certain this will greatly improve it. It's very exciting to see some less well known game-types featuring in a top of the range game. I'm always pleased to see the mainstream gaming industry branch out from popular experiences such as Modern Warfare 2. The development team are dedicated:

Our goal is to continue to pack as much entertaining gameplay and as many surprises as we can into the massive world of Red Dead Redemption over the coming months. Sam Houser - Rockstar Games.
All this DLC will almost triple the size of the competitive multiplayer features in game and greatly enlarge the single-player campaign and overall experience. It seems I'll have to be picking up this game sometime soon to take part in this DLC. It's also exciting to see this kind of DLC timetable employed into great games again! It took place in Uncharted 2 and it's reassuring that in some games the developers don't consider the game finished at all upon release. Hopefully we can look forward to some mainstream developers including a free round of high-quality DLC before their further, priced DLCs.

On the topic of developers caring and continuing to look after their game I'd just like to briefly doff my hat to VALVe. Team Fortress 2 has been available since 2007 and since then they've quintupled (5x) the size of the game in totally free updates! With 119+ free, comprehensive updates their long-awaited Engineer Update releases soon. They will have provided all their multiplayer classes (9) with at least 10 extra equippable, upgradeable items since launch. Congratulations VALVe, we salute you!
