Rumor: Is This Blizzard's Release Schedule For The Next Four Years?

Blizzard Entertainment, a highly respected video game developer who produced highly praised titles such as
World of Warcraft and
Diablo, have always been very quiet about their releases. They're not known to get themselves into situations where they are forced to delay gamers. How? That's simple: They don't give specific release dates until only months prior. That gives them plenty of time to make the game as good as it can possibly be.
Recently, however, a source who remained anonymous provided MMO Game Site with an image that shows the alleged slated releases for the next four years, up until the end of 2014.
Some titles that may be of most significance to gamers include:
- Two
Starcraft II expansions: One at the end of 2011, another at the beginning of 2013.
-
Diablo III late 2011 release.
- Two
Diablo III expansions; One in mid-2013, another in late 2014.
-
World of Warcraft Mobile
-
World of Warcraft Movie
Despite the potential excitement such a leak can stir, we must go into this with some practicality.
- First let's focus in on the WOW Movie. The movie isn't entirely theirs, granted Blizzard Entertainment is a game developer, not a movie producer. Secondly, the WOW Movie has been started and stopped various times. Given that pattern, the probability of them having a fairly specific release timeframe is low.
- Later this month, the highly awaited
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion will be releasing. That will make a total of two Blizzard products launching this year:
Starcraft II and of course,
Cataclysm. This chart suggests that there will be a total of 8 releases in the next four years, which is unlikely given Blizzard Entertainment's history. Unless they're breaking their trend of putting a lot of time into each and every title they develop, it's unlikely that this chart will be accurate.
Whether or not this is a legitimate chart remains to be heard, and likely never will be heard granted Blizzard's response to the supposed leak:
"As always, we appreciate the interest in Blizzard’s current and upcoming games, but we don’t comment on rumors or speculation and we don’t have any new announcements to make. Right now we’re fully focused on the upcoming launch of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and we’re very much looking forward to celebrating that event with players around the world starting on December 7."
Keep in mind that, even if this is a legitimate chart, these release timeframes are not finalized. They could very well change as time passes. The next scheduled release after
Cataclysm is Battle.net Map Market in mid-2011. If we're ever to gain trust in this information, that'll be when.
