(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Okay, since I wasn't able to find one on here, I figured I'd start an official drift racing thread. This is the place to post (and ask for) how tos, tips, tricks, best cars for drifting, settings, etc. And, to get this thread started:

i am a very good drifter and spent most of my time recently drifting so please ask questions i will try answer and i hope there are drifters out there because its fun go try it because you will enjoy it.

BTW im using a regular ps3 controller and it works great.

Below are lists of tips, cars, and car tuning which I will amend and add to over time.


General Tips for cars:

MR cars (like Lotus' are the supposedly easiest to initiate a drift in as they are the most balanced but are also harder to maintain control

FR cars are the standard choice for drifters, and there are many ranging from a Trueno to a Corvette. For drifting you want something with a lower power to weight ratio (at least to start out with) cars with lots of horsepower are going to be a lot harder to control. Don't try to sling your 1000+HP 1100kg RM corvette around right off the bat

AWD cars are ultimately easier to drift with ( although technically its called powersliding with AWD cars and they are not allowed IRL drift contests). They are easier to regain control and don't require much throttle control but are much harder to initiate a drift (because they are more stable) and require you to use the E-brake.

Tires: You want the exact opposite from normal racing as you are trying to make the rear of the car lose traction, try various combinations of comfort and sport tires, the more powerful the car the softer (grippier) you'll probably want the tires. You sometimes want less grip in the rear but don't try to put sport soft in front and comfort hards in the rear or you'll just spin out when you hit the gas. Try out different combinations and see what you like best on a car by car basis.

Suspension: This is going to vary from car to car obviously, but generally want a stiffer suspension overall, as this allows you to transfer weight better, and you want the car to be as low as possible for maximum maneuverability.



Here's a step by step technique for drifting:
You want to enter the corner at around 60mph in 2nd or 3rd gear (tune your transmission accordingly).
1. just before entering the corner turn slightly in the opposite direction (so if it's a right hand turn, turn left slightly) this is called feinting.
2. suddenly let your foot off the gas (this is called lifting off), then transfers the power from the rear to the front wheels, you want to perform the faint and lift off very close to each other, almost as one step
3. turn into the corner and step on the gas. How much gas you need to give it depends on how powerful your car is and how far sideways you want to go. (hit the spoiler tag for more info on throttle control)


4. Countersteer: after turning into the corner the back of your car should lose traction, as soon as that happens start turning the wheel in the opposite direction of the turn (if it's a right turn, turn the wheel left) while using the throttle to keep the rear wheels spinning to maintain the drift.

-Nissan Silvia s13 or s15
-Lotus Carlton
-Subaru Impreza (any of these I hear is good, though they are 4 wheel drive which take more muscle to initiate a drift but are ultimately easier, or so I read)
-AE86 Trueno (The Initial D car, some say this is hard for beginners to use but good for skilled drifters)
-Race Modded Lancer Evo IX )
-Race Modded Suzuki Cappuccino 95 (I personally have tried this and it is easy to initiate drifts but hard to regain control, )
-Toyota FT-86
-C63 AMG
-F40 ferrari

WTF I just got on NGU to start a thread just like this oh well, I have a couple of setups if anyone would like to know them (Lancer IX race mod, Toyota FT-86 Sports G concept '10, 430 scuderia '07, and Elise 111R '04) just ask for any of them! (I have others that are from GTP settings depo, but all of those listed above are my personal tunes)

How do you change the car settings? :S I put all the parts on.

go to your garage hover over your car then press triangle on your car you should see settings go in thier and adjust them bro
