ok this is the start of a little help guide i thought i would try and start to type up and see how it went if it goes well then i will think of keeping this post up to date with a bit of help ever now and again.
ok so here we go
Character creation
i thought i would start this guide with a bit of character creation, i will make a few character classes up
the first one is what i call
The Nerd
this class focuses soley on the intelligence side of things so when yuo level up you have a few more points to share out which is always handy, this class is what i have based my character around and its going great the only things im really lacking in are melee and unarmed skills but with this class the great thing is that you can use any gun you find easily and without hinderance
S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats
strength - 5
perception - 5
charisma - 5
intelligence - 10
agility - 5
luck - 5
i know that putting all available points onto one stat doesnt make sense but it works im level 11 (4th time around) and have great stats taking out nightkins and fire geeckos out with one shot (varmint rifle + bigger mags).
Taggable Skills
speech
barter
explosives
theese are what i choose and the speech and barter really do come in handy with them i get really good prices and i get pretty easy speech challanges wich comes in handy for the first quest.
Perks
there really isnt a set list of perks for this class as you pretty much take what you want BUT i use perks like bloody mess etc which give boosts to weapons and give better criticals and the perk strong back which gives you the ability to carry another 50 pounds of equipment.

Followers
Boone
Boone is a great follower to have and he is more effective when used in conjunction with rex the cybernetic dog you get from the king but to get Boone you have to complete a quest called "One For My Baby" which is an easy quest
to start it all you have to do is go to the top of the dino-bite gift shop after 9PM and talk to boone and when he starts to talk about his wife tell him that you want to help and then he tells you to bring the person who did it to the front of the dinosaur and he'll take it from there he then gives you his beret and tells you to put it on when you get the scum in front of the dinosaur and that untill the deed is done you shouldnt talk to him again.
now you could spend ages going round every citizen in novac BUT we all want to do it the easy way so go to no-barks shack and ask him about it (whislt your down there you could go to the scrap yard and kill the owner and her dogs so that you can get the brain from one of the dogs for rex saves having to do it later) then go back to the motel lobbie and either pick the floor safe or pickpocket jeanie-may crawford (or take her to the front of the dinosaur) whichever wahy you choose go to the front of the dinosaur and swap whatever is on your head for the beret ( i suggest making sure that you can fully see jeanie-may (for laughs)) and watch what happens
now you have two choices here depending on what you did before this (have you opend her safe yet) if you hae opend her safe and took everything then go to boone and talk to him or get the key of her body and go and empty her safe and go to boone
whichever way you did it go to boone and when he asks how you know she was the one show him the recipt and he will give you a beret and the quest is complete
now to get him to follow you around keep talking to him and ask him what hes going to do next and keep choosing the obvious answer untill you get the option of something along the lines of "then come with me" and he will say yes
NOTES: BOONE CAN NEVER DIE HE JUST GETS KNOCKED UNCONCIOUS
REX- the cybernetic dog
to get rex you need to complete the G.I Blues quests for "the King" then you can get the quest Nothin' But a Hound Dog in which if you got the brain from one of the dogs from the scrapyard in novac just go to jacobstown and talk to the dock and get him to do the brain transplant and you get rex and a new quest.
Notes on rex
rex can be one of the more buggy compainions in the game
below is a a list of found bugs that i picked up from
You must login or register to view this content.
# ps3 Rex may die randomly while in the Remnants bunker
# pcpc Rex looses health when near the Remnants bunker. Fast travel to some other place if you see his health drop.
# If you dismiss Rex during Nothin' but a Hound Dog, when he is theoretically on loan to you and not a permanent companion, he may disappear and not return to The King. He may eventually show up after traveling to Doc Henry and speaking to him about Rex (don't travel from The King to Henry and back, Rex still won't be there! When you realise he's gone, load the last saved game, go to Jacobstown and then visit The King).
# When you tell Rex to wait at the Lucky 38, he can sometimes return to Freeside instead. Once found near the King, Rex will then run to the Lucky 38.
# While you may be able to get Rex as a companion, you will not receive the quest Nothin' But a Hound Dog. Subsequently you will be unable to repair Rex's brain.
# After replacing Rex's brain, he may become immobile.
# When asked to wait, Rex may disappear after the player leaves the area. NPCs will still make remarks to you as if he was there. This can be fixed by returning to Freeside and waiting for 3 days. If this happens during Nothin but a Hound Dog you will have to wait to be able to finish Guess Who I Saw Today, if Rex is not returned by the time Lily needs to be tested and you have gotten a brain, Lily will not be tested until Rex receives his new brain.
# After replacing Rex's brain with Lupa's, his health was set to 540/440 (440/440 being the default). Upon taking damage that reduced his health beneath 440, it could not be restored past 440. There is no known way to fix this bug. This issue remains unaddressed by the developer as of the 1.2.0285 update.
# If Rex is with you when you talk to Corporal Sterling in Camp McCarran then he will attack the First Recon group. This is either a bug or due to his dislike of hats.
# xbox360xbox360 Rex may randomly attack people although they will not turn hostile towards you only rex. Notable examples are Quartermaster Bardon at Hoover Dam and the inhabitants of the Aerotech Office Park.
# xbox360xbox360 ps3ps3 During combat, Rex might chaotically run around from-and-to foes while not attacking anyone, he may also in fact not attack at all when you have him.
# After Rex joins you, he will sometimes refuse to attack regardless of what state or setting you choose for him. He will continue to remain passive throughout the game. There is an easy fix for this, bring up the console with the ~ key, click on Rex, then type in "Kill". After Rex dies, bring up the console again, click on Rex, then type "Resurrect" and Rex will come back to life able to attack things again.
# xbox360xbox360 pcpc Rex will sometimes stop moving as if he has been told to wait. You will need to keep checking to see if he is still with you. This can usually be fixed by telling him to wait, then tell him follow you again, fast traveling or going through a door that requires a transition. However these fixes are per incident and he will randomly do it again. (Verified)
# ps3ps3 If you talk to Rex as soon as you get him for Nothin' But a Hound Dog, and the Perk for having him with you pops up, you will enter chat with him, but will have no options to talk. (Screen zooms in, he turns towards you, and no chat options appear.)
# xbox360xbox360 While doing the quest You Can Depend on Me (or just trying to sneak into the Gun Runners), Rex may glitch while in combat with the guards and end up in the Vendortron's kiosk. There is no physical way into the kiosk and Rex can still be spoken to. The only way to fix this problem is to fast travel to another loation, in which Rex will appear beside you in patched versions of the game.
# pcpc While vilified by the Legion, if Rex simply kills Lupa while you are disguised and have her brain transplanted by Calamity, the epilogue may state that Rex never got a replacement brain even though the quest is completed, rather than the correct ending.
# xbox360xbox360 Wearing a set of Biker Goggles and talking to Rex will trigger dialog where he growls at you as if you were wearing a hat.
# xbox360xbox360 When you are knocked out in Dead Money when you escape you will be unable to find Rex again.
# xbox360xbox360 If Rex and another person(i.e. The Player or another Companion) attack the same enemy at the same time and the game goes into slow motion kill-cam, the game may freeze. Turning kill-cam off may solve this problem.
(also you should read the page on rex in detail because its quite interesting :grin
