That's why they included single player

Nope, single player is the main point of the game, and is played more then multiplayer.
And it's not their fault, minecraft is bought by too many people a day and it shuts their log-in servers down. Minecraft.net is always up (besides when they re-arrange / update it), but the log-in servers have always seem to be the problem.

It will be a problem till the game gets made fully (out of beta) just get used to it.

It won't, it will be a problem untill notch decides his game is too ****ing popular and buy new log-in servers.

minecraft.net is online. the new launcher is screwed up. just download the old launcher or play the browser mode
