Not sure if this works for windows but you can also open up the minecraft.jar file and edit some cool stuff such as Text for all the buttons, all the GUI's like inventory, the moon and the sun, textures of some items etc.

You can also edit the splashes which are the yellow txt on the menu. It's located in the minecraft.jar under titles. the file is splashes.txt. Make sure to delete the META-INF folder though.
