Minecraft running slow? Tips on how to make it run faster
So you might be running Minecraft and it's preforming like Betty White. There are a few steps you should take to help make it run like Shaq;
1) Turn your smooth lighting OFF! I found this caused some lag for me, but it may not for others.
2) Turn render distance to SHORT. Why? Render distance lags the same SO MUCH. On a good PC you could run FAR without any lag, but on a pc like mine having the distance at far lags the heck out of it! Render distance DOESN'T affect gameplay! All it does it just adjusts how far you can see things, ex far render distance you can see for miles, but with short you can see pretty far, and for me it's all I need to play on. You can change it to TINY but that's super small rendering distance. Short distance is perfect in my opinion.
3) Make graphics FAST I don't know if this makes a difference honestly, but there's two options, Fancy and Fast. I suppose Fancy could cause some lag so stick with Fast.
Also try scanning for viruses / spyware, as they can slow your computer down a bunch.
And if you want to, and want to see if this makes a difference, try Game Booster Game Booster is basically a program that closes out programs that are running (ex, like Windows Sidebar, and any other program you choose) and de-frags RAM (I think, that's what it says lol) and makes it run faster? It does for me. I found this program through a program Mossy posted, and the company also had this available for download.

Also don't run things like videos and music and msn while playing Minecraft. Just have you and the Minecraft browser, that way nothing else can lag you.
4) Optimine 1.5_01
You must login or register to view this content.
Increases FPS, I can run far/normal now

and once i had 60 fps online LOL
install: Windows/Linux Instruction,
1) Locate your minecraft.jar file. On Windows, it's in %APPDATA%/.minecraft/bin
2) Create a backup of minecraft.jar
3) Open minecraft.jar in an archive editor (WinRar/7-Zip/etc)
4) Delete the META-INF folder.
5) Copy the .class files from the downloaded zip file into the jar file, replacing previous files.
6) Run Minecraft and test!
This is a MOD you put into the .jar and can cause other problems with mods, check to see that the classes aren't clashing with each other.
5) Don't play with alot of mods. Install Optimine and few more, I have like 7 mods installed, but certain mods can decrease your FPS drastically.
