Many of you know about the OnLive network and it's features. It is much like Steam in it's features, but received a very small following, compared to Steam, after it's release. While there are many who would swear by the OnLive cloud gaming network , many would prefer to stick to a console or Steam when it comes to gaming.

One thing that may change a few minds about OnLive is it's recent announcement that OnLive with be coming to all iDevices and Android devices. This will include, Android powered phones and tablets, iPhone, iPad, and presumably the iTouch.

An OnLive app will be coming to these mobile devices that will give subscribers the same connectivity to the online servers that is available to Mac, PC, and OnLive MicroConsole users.

The games will be controlled via either the touch controls for any of the given devices, or through the connection of the OnLive remote. It is safe to assume that the OnLive controller will connect via Bluetooth.

It was also stated that the ability to connect your mobile device to some HDTV's will be possible, allowing for users to play their OnLive games through their device on the big screen. Now this has been compared to the recent reveal of the Wii U tablet and it is thought the features available to users playing their OnLive Mobile on an HDTV will be very similar to some features available on the Wii U tablet.

Now I did search for additional info about this on the net and found very little recent information. What I did find was a video of a tech demo from 2010. This video displays a tech demo of the OnLive service on the iPad. This was just after the release of the iPad, and the video was posted on June 16th, 2010, the day before OnLive hit the markets in the US on June 17th.

It is stated in the video that OnLive on iDevices wasn't even close to release. It was simply a demonstration to show the ease of porting the OnLive dash to any new platform. With that all said I think it is safe to say the features shown in this demo video will be similar to the upcoming OnLive Mobile release so I will delve a bit deeper into the features shown on the video.

Now what struck me first about the video was how little the person showing off the tech demo knew about what he was doing with the damn thing. Although, he was inexperienced, it is safe to say that the features shown were very well put together.

The first feature he bragged on was the fact that all of the features available on computer, such as XP, Leaderboards, and notifications were all fully supported on the iPad. It was also shown that these features were linked with your main account and were not held separately from other stats. So I would assume that you could save up a game while playing at home on your PC, and then connect via iPad and load up that same game save. A feature like that would be wonderful as you would have your game with you anywhere and always have access to your saves and stats.

In the demo I was not impressed buy the usability of the controls. Now I am not sure whether to attribute this to the inexperienced user or the fact that the controls were just not refined enough. I would say that with the actual release coming the developers will have improved the usability of the touch controls. And if all else fails just whip out that OnLive controller, connect it up, and game away.

The first game shown was Borderlands, and it was ported with full touch capabilities, and in my opinion it looked as if all of the features were fully supported. Again the controls looked to be a bit hard to use so in the end the demonstrator ended up moving on pretty quickly.

Next he loaded up Dragon Age, and as soon as he started it he said "This wasn't made with touch capabilities so this will be interesting". Well, he soon came to find that the game was not at all supported on the iPad.

He then went to demonstrate the ability to stream live footage of what your friends are playing in OnLive. While this features has very little actual use it was cool to see how smooth and clean the features all looked.

Even though the features in that video looked to be a bit shaky, they still looked very refined for being a mere tech demo. It is safe to say OnLive will have improved and removed many of the bugs, and that the release coming this fall will be very full fledged and support many games.

If anything else I am excited to see console gaming making a very big leap to mobile devices. Sure there have been console games released here and there on mobile devices, but we have never seen anything on this scale. This is an exciting glance into what is coming for the mobile and console gaming community alike.

So what are your opinions on the OnLive dash coming to mobile devices? Are you excited to see console games making the leap to mobile devices in such a full featured way? Will these features make it more likely for you to invest in the OnLive service?

It doesn't need a Jailbreak to do certain things though.

This is a great service, what sucks though is you can't keep the games forever :( You can't mod games either...
