<div align=“justified”>A previous idea once condemned by the company, is now a rather large step forward for many hardware enthusiasts. Microsoft has just release their first SDK(Software development Kit) for the Kinect peripheral device. The kit allows for consumers who have purchased the kinect hardware to use it via their Windows PC. Though just getting started, this move promises many creative uses and ideas to come. Free of charge, Microsoft offers the SDK to anyone who desires, by way of download from their official website located You must login or register to view this content.

Inside this download package consists many drivers which allow for the recognization of the Kinect through your PC. With this being stated, the device can now even be used as an own personal webcam, and or microphone. Included within the development kit is source code samples which those who consider themselves a “techie”, can make use of.

This SDK enables the academic research and enthusiast communities to create rich experiences by using Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect sensor technology on computers running Windows 7.

Well this all may seem glamorous, there are some concerns brought to light by rather famous developers. Following Marcan42 on twitter, this dev seems to think nothing less than bad of the software development kit. Acclaimed in particular is that even though Microsoft seems to be allowing it’s users ‘freedom’ with their device, there is in fact hidden catches.

Nevertheless, the ability is now granted for those wishing to make more use of the Xbox Kinect. No matter what skeptics may claim, the release by Microsoft will in fact please many.
