what are you using bukkit or the normal one from the minecraft site? just go to the site you got it from and download the new one or the minecrsft.jsr if its bukkit

I'm assuming since you don't know about how to install mods that you are just running the default server from minecraft.net. Okay, to update, you need to just download the new minecraft_Server.jar from the website. Or, to install mods, the best way is to download CraftBukkit. This can be found on Bukkit.org. THe instructions for installing that are on the website, along with all the mods you can install on it. There is a massive list so you will surely find what you need.
