(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Is your Minecraft running slow? here are some tips on how to make it faster

1) Turn your smooth lighting off!
This helped me greatly but different users will see different results

2) Turn your render distance to short.
Render Distance is the rate at which how far you can see things in the map. Turning your render distance down will allow you to run your game much more smoothly since there are obviously less graphics being loaded at any one time. If you do like your render distance far however you are still suffering from LAG then please refer to the bottom for extra tips.

3) Make graphics fast
I don't know if this makes a difference honestly, but there's two options, Fancy and Fast. I suppose Fancy could cause some lag so stick with Fast. But it's always worth a try. The image below shows the settings that currently work for me

Show FPS in Minecraft:
Do you want to see how much memory Minecraft is using and display your FPS? Press F3!

4) Game Booster
Game Booster is basically a program that closes out programs that are running such as printer-related programs, windows sidebar and just about any others that you don't need. It should also Defrag your RAM, did for me anyhow. The download link is available below

5) Make Java Run faster

Using task manager, set minecraft's priority to high/realtime by right-clicking minecraft and selecting 'Go to process' then Right-click on javaw.exe and hover over Priority. Select High Priority (Do not use realtime if you don’t want to crash your PC)

Make sure Java is using all of your processors or Minecraft will not run as fast it could. To do that right-click on javaw.exe and hover over Affinity. Select all CPU’S:

6) Optimine and Optifog 1.6.6 - This mod should help boost your fps, follow the instructions below

Personally this worked for me but once again users may get different results

Install: Windows/Linux Instructions:
1) Locate your minecraft.jar file. On Windows, it's in %APPDATA%/.minecraft/bin
2) Create a backup of minecraft.jar
3) Open minecraft.jar in an archive editor (WinRar/7-Zip/etc)
4) Delete the META-INF folder.
5) Copy the .class files from the downloaded zip file into the jar file, replacing previous files.
6) Run Minecraft and test!

This is a MOD you put into the .jar and can cause other problems with mods, check to see that the classes aren't clashing with each other.

Leave the default settings for the new fog menus.

OptiFine 1.7.3
(Classic, includes support for HD textures, HD fonts and BetterGrass, MCPatcher not needed)

  • This mod adds a lot of options for better looks and performance. Doubling the FPS is common.
  • Moves fog away, adds mipmaps, chunk loading control (mod CAF), Smooth FPS, brightness control, VSync and many other.

Download OptiFine 1.7.3_HD_G (fixed handheld items, added Zoom, SmoothInput): You must login or register to view this content., You must login or register to view this content.

NEW* OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_A
(Classic, includes support for HD textures, HD fonts and BetterGrass, MCPatcher not needed)

This mod adds a lot of options for better looks and performance. Doubling the FPS is common.
Moves fog away, adds mipmaps, chunk loading control (mod CAF), Smooth FPS, brightness control, VSync and many other.

Download OptiFine 1.8.1_HD_A (new lighting system, many bugfixes): You must login or register to view this content. // You must login or register to view this content.

7) Don't play with alot of mods. Install Optimine and that's it, having too many mods are even a mod and alot of items will slow down your FPS drastically so I would advise against it.

Cool Man (aka Tustin) Minecraft 1.6.6 Option; Performance.
In video options set the FPS to maximum, once again this isn't 100% since users have reported the option to be useless for them.

Extra Tips

  • It would also be advisable to close down any programs such as music, videos or just about anything that may cause lag when playing Minecraft.
  • Also try scanning for viruses / spyware, as they can slow your computer down alot.
  • Disable startup programs, by going to system config and disabling programs that start as soon as you turn on the computer
  • Defrag your hard drive, it should be in your accessories
  • Delete bloat-ware, or files and programs that you no longer need to clear up space for your hard drive
  • Turn off Aero in Windows Vista/7
  • Check video card drivers and make sure antialiasing is turned off in the global settings

If all else fails, then buy a new computer!Smile

That just about sums up my thread, hope this helps :y:

Forgot about putting minecraft in high/realtime priority through task manager, and also setting the affinity so it only runs on one core -- somehow its smoother.

Quoting for attention, you should probably change Optifog etc. to the new updated Optifine for 1.7.3. That does wonders for my game Cool Man (aka Tustin)
