In Spring of this year, shipments of PS3's in Europe had been halted, due to a lawsuit between LG Electronics and Sony. The lawsuit had been filed after Sony and LG got in a bit of a tiff over the use of the Blu Ray technology in PS3 systems. Each company ended up filing for infringement upon the other company.
Luckily both have come to an agreement recently. They have settled on a cross licensing deal that allows both companies to go on with business while both receiving their cut of the profits on the Blu Ray technology in the the PS3.
Now that it has all been worked out it will now be much easier for European gamers to access and purchase a PS3 system.

Still prefer xbox, but that's good news
