Either Breezehome, or Proudspire Manor.

They all suck.

Breezehome in Whiterun is quite affordable, even at early levels. It also is a huge convenience, considering its location. It's also close to a smithing location and shop, so if you're trying to level that (which I suggest you do if you currently are not), then it's perfect.

It also has ample storage. I like it for its simplicity as well.

Solitude house > all, loads of free sheet in it, including a stone of barzenriah

The Solitude house is the best, but if you only want the house for storing your stuff in, then get the house in Whiterun. It only costs 5,000 and it's a decent size.

Any house is good value as long as you're next to a chest or somewhere to store things when you buy it...
Talk to the yarls advisor or whoever till the point when you give the money then as soon as you give the money back out of the conversation Circle on PS3 store all your money in a chest next to you then carry on the conversation then you can get your money as soon as you get the keys. It's how I got my house... a youtube video might be a bit clearer than this though xx

Never really bother with the houses tbh, just somewhere to stick random unwanted crap. Although I do prefer my house in Whiterun.
