Tanks are a powerful vehicle that under used and often wasted waiting at spawn.
Like all vehicles need a certain playstyle to do well along with some practice and common sense.
Tanks have quite a bit of Armour to them but that does not mean they can take it all day.
Add in being slow and limited view quite weak if you don't use them right.
Best way to get around the limited view is to use 3rd person view to drive. This means you can watch out for other tanks and keep a eye on things.
Would like to point out that tanks also have a boost , quite helpful for moving around the map and getting away.
Due to the limited view the gunner is very very important to a tank. The gunner job is means to be the eyes of a tank in places where the driver can't see.
Gunner job is to protect the weak spot of the tank the rear.
Work with your gunner calling out targets and he does the same for you. Working alone in a tank limits your potential leaves you open.
Infantry are good for you. They help tell you where people are so look out for spots
Due to being slow your a perfect target for air targets to ruin your day. So it best to abuse the environment when moving around. If your being locked on drive inside to break the lock or dodge missiles. The same thing can be done for all vehicles.
Have a plan......
On certain maps it worth having a tank control one area of the map. Take for example wake island B flag on conquest keep control you keep the air power.
If your team is finding it hard to keep control of one part of the map post up and help them out.
Think about how your going to get to a certain spot is there loads of spots for people to hide in etc
Right targets
Other tanks
Air targets
Infantry
Ask the following questions when your picking a target.
Effective weapon to use. No point in using a machine gun on another tank >_>
Can i hit the weak spots ?
What the biggest threat right now infantry or the tank looking the other way ?
Do friendlies need help ?
Unlocks and my view on them.
Smoke : Smoke hides your tank and breaks locks. Need i say more it quite helpful and has a range of uses another then to break locks. Drop it if too many people around you and escape.
Coaxial LMG : This can be helpful if your running solo , helps you deal with infantry. It a simple lmg from the support class put on your tank.
If your being C4ed alot and your gunner finding it hard to kill them. Along with a low threat from tanks use this and Proximity scan.
Autoloader : Faster reload of your main gun. Works well with some infantry based setups.
Zoom Optics : Worthless no reason to use this over anything else. Unless you want to camp at the edge of the map. Far better unlocks.
Maintenance : Never found a use for it unless your running solo and not as a engineer.
Coax HMG : Heavy version of the LMG. It not as spammy as the lmg but can do alot more work against light vehicles. Even choppers can be taken down with it.
Proximity Scan : On infantry maps quite deadly. Allows you to keep track of where people are. Rising your awareness means rising scores on bigger maps it not as helpful.
Guided Shell : Guided shells have become one of my fav unlocks to use on a tank. Because it has alot of uses for starters it works against ground vehicles with a laser lock on does work against air too. One problem it travels very slow so jets can escape it and choppers.
Saying that if they get close enough it game over for choppers one hit kill.
Bad chopper pilots find it hard to counter against.
Thermal Optics : infantry maps deadly like proximity scan but comes at a cost. You can only use it in 1st person view not 3rd. Proximity scan far more useful but if your using your first slot as something else fills proximity gap nice.
Thermal Camo : Much like stealth on jets it increases the spot time and lock on time.
Canister Shell : Giant shotgun on the main gun. Has a massive range and deadly against choppers , light vehicles and infantry. Infantry maps worth using or even on bigger maps if nobody is laser painting.
Reactive Armor : The armor soaks up damage done to you. Quite simply you have 3 panels put on your tank. One at the back, one right and left. This means that you have to take a extra rpg, tank shell before any damage is done to your tank. If you fully repair a tank and keep repairing couple secs after the panels are replaced.
Pretty helpful if your attacked and not ready. Saved my life many times and allowed me to escape.
CITV Station : Gives you a 3rd seat in the tank which can paint targets using a laser. This when mixed with guided shells turns the tank into a complete warhorse.
That not all your given a motion sensor too however it slow to update. And thermal vision if you want to use it within the seat.
Once unlocked you never need to select it.
Setups i use
Small maps
Autoloader
Thermal optics
Canister shell
Autoloader means a faster reload of your maingun and second gun. In this case this setup is doing a 1 2 punch.
Canister shell is a giant shotgun with insane range mixed with the main cannon you become quite a monster against anything in your way.
You can deal with tanks faster due to the reload. And also cause quite a bit of pain for anybody trying to take you down as fire everything you got at them.
Thermal optics means you can see them easier so it harder for them to hide.
Large maps
Reactive armor
IR Smoke
Guided shell
This setup turns your tank into a vehicle slayer. Guided shell with the use of a laser lock means not even jets are safe.
You can very quickly destroy a tank using this setup due to the high damage output done.
If the other tank is not quick in repairing he is done.
Fire your guided shell first then your main gun pretty much game over.
Reason i picked smoke is because smoke removes the line of sight meaning you can escape from another tank easy.
If your being hit too much drop smoke and boost away.
Last thing to cover what hurts a tank and how much damage
If you want tips for certain maps am more then welcome to give you some.
Tips from you :
Hitman06 : A tank can't swim, so remember to keep it dry. Sadly hitman had to learn this the hard way......

I messed up editing this and should have posted it with some pages but meh lol

Zoom optics are amazing, it makes you tank a sniper. if you are not using zoom optics then you probably rushing with you tank and blowing it up and wadting assets, assuming your on console, use zoom optics and camp outside of the tunnel on davamond conquest. You should get 30 kills easy with no more them 1 or 2 deaths.
I haave 4 stars with armour, i think the best setup is
autoloader
zoom
lmg

Guided shell - reload is slow as hell though.. might change that out for something else. autoloader is useful
Thermal optics - can save your life against AT mines :p plus you can see the enemies a lot more clearly.
Thermal camo - waiting till i unlock reactive amour.

I`ll try out some tips from this thread
Guided shells is only worth it when you have somebody spotting stuff with a laser
Saying that guided shells alone are good but if your driving solo dont use them. Often your die due to somebody coming up behind you.
Thermal optics are good for mines saved my arse alot lol , i know most of the mine zones now and with laser target no need
Has a thermal mode , quickly switch if your unsure
Gunner can help spot them for you.
I been running around with maintenance. May use it on the littlebird......if you get out of trouble can be useful. But Armour is too good with the buff to RPG damage. Armour going to help alot.

Only use i found for zoom was doing long rang shots. As most of the maps with long range have stuff which can take you do pretty quick and little cover over range why not use smoke.
Smoke can help you hide , even in a tank battle it screws over people aim.
Smoke has so many uses vs zoom one
I tried that method but i found being worthless to my team padding my K.D boring lol
Here one tip
IF your a engineer driver in a tank you can see C4 being put on your tank
Saids Square to pick up
When you see that jump out of the tank and run or kill him and remove it
My setup is Guided Shell, Thermal Optics, and Reactive Armor. I like reactive armor because if C4 placed on the RA then blows up, you won't take damage. If only some C4 is placed on the tank you can get out before you die. It helps A LOT
