As of April 2nd, 2012, Activison support has let set in place their new banning policy for Modern Warfare 3 (MW3). MW3, as most of you know, is filled with glitches, hacks, exploits, foul language, and cheating. So Activision had decided to put a stop to it by using an in game report system in which could lead to ban. Obviously, this system isn't new. It's been on Black Ops and for MW3 thus far. However, like I said previously, a new ban policy had just been released.

Users playing MW3 could get banned from the servers for any of the following reasons:

  • Boosting - when a player either kills or earns XP in a non-legitimate fashion in an organized set.
  • Cheating - when a player is not playing the game in a fair way.
  • Glitching - when a player is an a spot or area in which they are not supposed to be in.
  • Hacking - when a player modifies the game for their own gain.
  • Offensive Behavior - when a player uses foul language/attitude.
  • Offensive Gamertag - when a player's gamertag is offensive.

Now, for each of these ban reasons, a specific code is given to a player to verify what type of ban he/she has undergone. Starting with the first reason in the list above (Boosting), the code starts at 1000. Meaning the second reason would be 1002 and the last would be 1005.

Now for the good part - punishments. For ban reasons 1000-1002, the following consequences lie:
1. First Offense: With proper verification, user is banned for 48 hours and a stats reset.
2. Second Offense: With proper verification, user is banned for 48 hours and a stats reset, and a permanent ban from leaderboards.
3. Third Offense: With proper verification, user is perm banned.

For ban reason 1003:

For ban reason 1004:

1. First Offense: With proper verification, user is banned for 24 hours

And finally, for ban reason 1005:
1. First Offense: With proper verification, user is reputation banned 5000. A reputation ban that exceeds a certain threshold can lead to bans from playing.

Activision has released pictures of what bans look like for each reason. As you can see, the reason is presented at the bottom, while the ban time is listed in the middle. Here are some pictures:

That's it for now. If any more information is released on the banning mechanisms/policies for MW3, I will keep you updated. Remember, don't do anything you'll regret, because you will get banned!

How can you get banned for having an offensive gamertag?
Don't you have to change it if it's reported?

That's what they did for Black Ops.
I suppose IW is being a lot more strict, but since it's just on 360 (for name changes), it shouldn't be such a big deal.
