Post: The Last of Us ending question (Spoilers)

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); First of all this game was amazing, a solid 9/10... would have been 10/10 if it was on PS4 and if it had points where you can select dialogue and different scenarios/endings like Heavy Rain.

For some reason I was under the impression it would be a sad ending and I was sure Joel was gonna die at the end, but the ending wasn't sad at all so I dunno what people were talking about.

But one thing I had a question on about the end.... is Elli still slowly turning into a zombie? What was with that speech at the end when she says her friends turned one by one and her turn is slowly coming? It seemed like they showed her hand and the infection was getting worse and Joel is in denial about her turning infected. Or did I interpret that scene wrong?

And do you think Tess died in vain since Joel had forgone the chance at a vaccine in order to (and this may be left to interpretation) hold on to a daughter-like figure? Tess was infected, and begged Joel to get Ellie to the fireflies for the sake of humanity. I think she would have been pretty pissed.

Ellie was basically saying she feels guilty that her friend turned and she still hasn't. I thought the ending was pretty f**ked up tbh. It was strong in the sense of the emotional relationship that is portrayed between joel and ellie that builds through the game, and like you said taking her on as a daughter figure having lost his own at the beginning; but it leaves no re-equilibrium to a world that is screwed. Would have been a much better ending if ellie had mentioned that her friend had also not turned or something similar so they then could go on as quest to find her. At least that way it would have left some form of hope left for a resolution.
Hate story lines without proper closure! lol

I noticed the hand thing too. I don't think Ellie is turning though, nor will she. The whole speech about her friend, and Tess, and Sam, is expressing her survivor's guilt. She feels bad her friends are dead. She is glad its not her. She hates herself for that feeling. It is to show a connection to how Joel feels. He lost his daughter, Tess, and he couldn't bear to lose Ellie too. That is why he lied to her. As for Tess, I don't think she would have wanted a little girl to die. Although she is cold, (best way to put it) she doesn't seem like the type of person to kill a kid, even if to possibly save mankind.

In response to what you said black, I feel as though Naughty Dog ended it the way they did because it gives them a LOT of working room on the sequel, if there will be one. Had Ellie said that her friend had also not turned, we would all know its another long travel across the country to find one person. Basically the same story again. For once, a game didn't have a huge cliffhanger at the end, and I still want a sequel.

Ellie just feels bad for being alive, that every one risked their lives and died so she could make it to the fireflies but didn't go through with the operation. Also she wanted to speak about everyone dying though out the game but Joel didnt' want to talk.
