VGChartz.com (linked above) reports that Sony PS3 worldwide sales have now crossed the 30 million threshold, which many are attributing to several factors including the late August PlayStation 3 Slim release, the $299 PS3 price cut and recent Final Fantasy XIII sales.
Approximately five months ago, the PS3 hit the 24 million point, which means in a little less than half a year six million PS3 entertainment systems were sold!
These latest weekly sales numbers show that PlayStation 3 has reached another milestone, and that Sony has indeed made great progress in closing the gap between PS3 and the Xbox 360 console.
To quote: "Thanks to Final Fantasy XIII, the Slim, the price cut, and new marketing, the PlayStation 3 has not only shattered expectations once again, it is ahead of it's closest competitor in EU, sells 1 million units Worldwide, and has now crossed the 30 million unit milestone! Congratulations PlayStation 3!"
