Yes you can. When I bought mine a few months ago it is like 3.51 or something like that one it.

just search on ebay or where ever for a ps3 and ask what firmware it is on

Yeah ebay is the way to go, i bought a 320GB slim - only $300 and it was on 3.41 - Even if its below 3.55 it's easy enough to upgrade

I bought a PS3 off eBay and one off some American site too- both came on 3.40 and that was roughly 3 months ago. Chances are if you buy now however in Walmart etc you'll get 3.56+, so best buy off eBay and message the seller about the firmware prior to bidding.
