so the plan was to backup my 80gb, remove the 80gb hardrive, put the 60gb in its place, update and jailbreak the new hardrive, then use my backup of all my files to have a 3.55 jb ps3.
the reason i cant do it on the 60gb is because something inside it is broken and i have had it confirmed it is not the hardrive it was some solder but when i sent it to a company to fix it they basically just ripped me off :/
any help is appreciated even if it is a *face palm GTFO you noob*
Yes, you can remove the HDD from any PS3 and swap it with any other PS3 HDD. You could even buy a CPU HDD and swap it with a PS3 one. To be honest, you could have called SONY on that one xD
And if you plan to back up your 80GB HDD to something, try your computer. You can call SONY for help with that too. Here's the catch, you don't "update" your HDD. If your system is already on 4.00 Official Firmware with your 60GB HDD, then any HDD you insert will be on 4.00 because it's your SYSTEM Firmware and it's not stored anywhere on your HDD. That is explained in one of the NGU Stickies, I think (something about wiping your HDD will not allow downgrade or something). Basically, that "wiping" one can go for "swapping" too because again, it's the system that';s updated...not the HDD
