Ok first know this, go to system settings on your ps3 and then system information if you have a ps3 with 3.55 or lower firmware then you are in luck just download a 3.55 custom firmware and install it using a USB stick. E.g. kmeaw 3.55 custom firmware and go to update system and update it, look around on how to do this... If you are higher than 3.55 e.g. 3.56 or 4.00 etc then you may have to buy a ps3 which will have 3.55 from ebay or craigslist this is the second best option. Ok this is the last option DOWNGRADING this is when you open up your PS3 and install a downgrading modchip e.g E3 FLASHER or Progskeet. If you don't wanna risk your warranty or getting your ps3 f***ed up then go with option 2 buying a ps3. Anymore questions ask
