(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I have 1 ps3 on 4.10, that has a broken blueray drive, and a brand new ps3 that is on 3.55. Is there anyway I can put 3.55 on the broken blue ray drive so I can just update my new one to 4.10? (without having to buy a flasher or anything else expensive. )

Like, datat transfer would not switch the fws, would it?

just swap bluray drives simple?

The blue ray drives are married to the mother board so swapping is out of the question. Also swapping hard drives would reformat them losing all data. Data transfer utility only transfers content and firmware is not among that content.

I was browsing google looking for stuff on blueray repair/replacement today because i just ordered a ps3 from ebay with a bunk blueray drive and came across a website called videogame911. Apparently they fix drives and replace them as well. If i were you I'd look into that. From what I found they are based in New Jersey which is good for me because they are US based. Everything seemed legit. Might be your best bet for now just to get it repaired as you cannot swap firmware between systems. Link is below

And no I am not affiliated with them at all so this is not advertising.

could you not just swap the logic boards on the blu ray drives so the marriage will remain untouched?

You can simply swap your bluray drives around, the logic board on the drive is married to your PS3 not the bluray drive itself provided there the same type KEM400-aaa or 410's. Removing the logic board is a simple 4 screw & 2 ribbon cable job (5mins)

I did a little more research, You would have to have the same model logic board to do a swap like that or cannibalizing your ps3 to make the other work by swapping logic boards and chips. I would honestly go the easy route and have the drive itself repaired by people who actually do it for a living. BUT If you are confident in your skills to take on such a task, then by all means do it. There are tuts on it ( i don't have links ) and it could walk you through it but i there are some things needed..

1. Heat Gun
2. Soldering Iron
3. Solder Paste (Sn 63/Pb 37)
4. Flux
5. Isopropyly Alcohol
6. Desoldering Braid

This could be inacurate as i pulled the info from another source online ( You must login or register to view this content. ) so don't quote me on it.
