I know thier are many different types of hacking, but what I am hopeing to get good at is hacking into things like the ps3 console. I also know that their will technically never be another jailbreak, since it is illegal, but that is not what I am trying to impose. I just want to know what I need to do in order to get good at hacking into things such as hardware and software.

What I am Already Learning
To begin with, I am learning a lot about computer programming. I am starting off with game development in a game engine called Unity 3d. I am learning Unity-script, but I hope to move on to programming libraries such as C# and C++ that I will actually be able to use for software development and other development.

My Questions
1. Ive learned a bit about how the ps3 was hacked through this youtube vid and the others that go along with it
----https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzg7qWz2e24&feature=plcp---- ...., but I dont quite understand how everything is done. So my first question would have to be what has got to be done in order to hack a ps3s firmware. I dont mean how do I jailbreak it...I mean, how are the encryption keys figured out and such.

2. Is there anything else I have got to get good at? Do I have to get good at things such as engineering or know some basics about engineering or the makeing of hardware?

3. Are there any good books on how these thing are done? I saw many books on ethical hacking and some other stuff on amazon, but wasnt quite sure if they had what I was looking for. Also I know that algebra is also nice to know when it comes to hacking and other mathmatic skills, so im hopeing to get into an algebra 1 class next year in 8th grade.

Thank You
Thank you hackers of NGU. I am truely sorry if this post was too discrete or long, but I was in a rush, so I am hopeing I didn't make too many mistakes throughout this post.

This might not help but a great place to start with hacking ps3s is studding the history. like why people started hacking the PlayStation 3 and the different methods of jail breaking and how jail breaking evolved over time (before 3.56 and 3.60 :FU: ). That gives you a greater understanding. It’s just a suggestion but if you don’t know much about the history I suggest that you take a look at it.

The hardest part of figuring out the PS3 is trying to crack the algorithms within it. If you know
who Kakarotos is he put out a blog post explaining some of the algorithms within the PS3's current
firmware and what not. I'm not sure if you would learn anything from it, but even if you don't its a great place
to start off at if you want to get into the hacking scene.

hmmm...Interesting. I remember stumbling upon Karkatos's post on how to solve the ECDSA algrorithms, but only skimmed it, for I was really busy at the time. I finished reading a bit more of it....well I read the bottom part because I wanted to know what happens if you figure out the algorithms, but it also states that there will be no modified firmware above 3.56 because they fixed the ECDSA keys. I always thought it was never going to technically be hacked because it is illegal now, which makes it pointless in hacking. Is that true that theres practically no chance in hacking it now, since they fixed the algorithms, but what I dont understand is...How were the ECDSA keys found in the first place if ECDSA keys are so hard to figure out...was it just because of one simple flaw in the algorithm?

yeah, i mean i know jb is illegal but wouldnt u still be able to jb it? & if u dnt release it & just use for personal reason, wouldnt it be oka?

Yes you can do it even if its illegal, but if you release it or tell anyone how you did it you would get in trouble..., but that wasnt necessarily my question. I was morely asking about why is it so complicated/impossible to solve the algorithm to unlock the ps3 if the algorithm has been solved before. If it was changed then whats stopping people from solveing the new algorithm, which is just a fixed version of the ECDSA keys....im guessing there was a lot more added then just a new algorithm.

first learn how assembly works then learn c and hacking is just getting around an issue you have or making changes to something you do not like not always illegal. also having good math skills helps... now this is more of a programming question rather then ps3

the reason that doesnt work is part of the alg hash you need to brute force may not be obtainable and sonys sig is set good atm

Thank you very much...Now I actually have somewhere to start. I read Karkatos's thing and it did talk about the bruteforce, which he said that it would take a thousand years even for a super computer to find the private keys or something. So, finding then finding the public keys would be easier?....by easier I mean it would take less time? Lets say I do get good at assembly, C, and also math....(I plan on doing this as soon as I finish learning C#, C++, and the language im learning now. ) would I even have a chance at being able to modify the ps3....or is it nearly impossible? :???:

Sorry for all the questions. Smile
