Well, you can only data transfer to a PS3 with equal or great firmware; if you wanted to data transfer to your 3.55 PS3 from your 4.11 PS3, you would have to spoof your 3.55 firmware.
The only downside I can think of is when I had Rogero 3.55, I spoofed to 9.99... but when I tried to undo the spoof, it wouldn't work and I was stuck on 9.99.
-- I had to downgrade to 3.41 and update to Kmeaw 3.55 I don't know what you really mean by "good or bad", but that's just from my experience of ''things that can go wrong''.

No... You have to be on 4.1 or 4.11 to play online. 3.55 is the newest jailbreakable firmware so update means no jailbreak stay back means no online.

There is no bad.. As long as you use a version you can take off (such as rebug). I would not trust the MFW version. There is a 9.99 spoof available you can take on and off from the PS3 itself. Use that.

All the spoof does is keeps you from accidently updating your PS3. I have one on mine 24/7.
