it should . usually a time out message means a poor wireless signal and a wired connection gives you a 100% connection

you can also try the usual wifi fixes , move the router or ps3 closer , put an aluminum pie plate behind the router antenna to try cutting off some interference and get a stronger signal , moving the antenna

just getting online is easy and doesn't need a good or fast connection , getting on psn does require a strong connection , fast speeds and proper router setup like port forwarding or upnp enabling .
