(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok so i bought a ps3 off ebay and will attempt to fix it, Just got a few questions.

1. Will switching the motherboards do anything? Like taking one motherboard and cleaning the rest of the system and putting my 3.55 in there. Will that fix the YLOD? and do i HAVE to have it warm up or can i just apply paste after cleaning?

The receiving case mentioned above will have the green light of death is there any problem with that? I'm told it the video graphics card/drivers that cause that.

Thanks in advance. Groan if you want, really don't care as long as you answer.

Changing the motherboard Would probably fix it. Just make sure you add new thermal paste. If you don't want to add a thermal paste, you would probably have to warm it up. I have a Ylod ps3 myself and need someone to fix it because I dont have the time or parts to fix it.

would i HAVE to heat it up to apply paste or can i just clean with rubbing alcohol and apply new? and does the hair drier trick work? even for a few hours, so i can upload some patches and transfer?

Im not sure, ask someone else who knows more about the PS3. Like I said, I'm not that advanced with ps3's. But the Hair Dryer trick does not work. It does not get the solder hot enough to where it temporarily fixes the ylod. The oven method works best if you don't have a heat gun.
