Post: E3 Downgrade- YLOD, Not Booting, Tristate works: Need Help

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi all

I'm having some difficulties with a PS3 CECHK DIA-002 on 4.25 OFW.

I managed to validate the dump via hex- it was fine, and then patched it using NOR Auto-Patcher 0.1. It flashed without errors, with a large piece of polystyrene wedged underneath the clip to stop it from losing pressure, and gave me the Please Press PS Button screen, at which point I turned it off immediately. I then set up my PSGrade Dongle using a linux tool called 'dfu-programmer', which installs hex files onto Atmel boards.

I turned my PS3 back on, using the dongle, and pressing on + eject within 200ms. The lights would turn on in some sort of order on the dongle. It then turned off after 5 seconds, with a loud click. I then inserted my FAT32 USB stick into the PS3, containing PS3UPDAT.PUP and the lvl2diag.self. I turned the PS3 on. There was nothing displayed on the screen at all, and after 10 seconds it turned itself off again. It didn't beep at all, and just turned cleanly off with a slight click.

I then realised that my hard disk was not formatted for PS3 use, as I formatted it on the PC just before flashing the NOR. So, I managed to get out of this problem with the PS3 turning off every few seconds, seemingly by putting the File 2 lv2diag.self onto my USB drive. I then went into recovery mode, tried to 'restore file system' on the hard disk, but it gave me an expectable error.

I kept trying with the dongle, but then ended up in a situation where the Lvl2Diag wouldn't get me out. So, I soldered the tristate, and managed to get the OFW running using my flash backup dump, however, during this flashing, the fans on the PS3 were outrageously loud for a PS3 that is almost silent at all times- I guess that would be because the polystyrene separated the heatsink on one of the chips from the cooler, and the large cooler screws wouldn't compensate for this much of a gap. It did boot into a perfect OFW though, and formatted the hard drive with the Select+Start PUP menu. It was just as it was to begin with. I then shrugged off the fans and tried again to downgrade, using the Flash Fun method, It didn't work. Same as last time.

I somehow got it to a state in which I was presented with the 'System Cannot Start' menu to install system software onto the HDD. However, this time it wouldn't recognise my 4.25 PUP as an appropriate PUP, even though it was asking for 4.25 or higher.

Now, the time between turning on and the 'YLOD'-like symptoms are much shorter, (3 seconds compared with 10) and there are now 3 beeps every time. The fan starts up. However, when I close the circuit between the tristate and the flasher ribbon, it doesn't turn off, and just allows me to Flash FUN. I tried removing the hard disk, which worked initially, but still no screen display but then it stopped helping. I've tried Flash FUNing with my patched and unpatched backup, and in both lock and unlock mode (however in unlock mode it said cannot initialize TF card), and tried using the lv2diag.self File 2 with both a USB pen drive and hard disk.

Can you please tell me whether the following are possible:

1) I've got the YLOD from overheating
- The Tristate connection did prevent the YLOD though
- Removing the hard disk did work initially, although all I got was a green light

2) I've 'permabricked' the console
- It's permabricked with a 100% definitely perfect dump

3) It's still in Factory Service Mode, even though it never made it into the XMB saying 'Factory Service Mode'

4) I need to use File 2 Lv2diag.self, but I need to use the HP Disk Storage Format Tool rather than Gparted, as my PS3 might not be recognising my pen drive, and the spin-up time on the external HDD might be too long for the Lvl2diag file, but it does recognise and read from the External HDD as it formatted the hard disk using a 4.25 PUP.

5) I destroyed my southbridge with the polystyrene, even though at one point it managed to make it to the system software PUP install menu. Also, there is a brief moment of hard disk activity, just in case the SATA is controlled by the southbridge.

6) Any other suggestions are welcome

Am I right in thinking that you can access FSM without a USB stick with the File 1 Lv2Diag.self and Rogero PUP anyway? So it never made it to FSM in the first place?

Please help! I can't work out what's going wrong with this thing. All I want to do now is get back to my OFW, but if anyone has any idea how to downgrade it too, that would be a plus.

Thanks

* and I did not use an E3_Downgrade.bin
* and I was using the Samsung 10-28-11 multiconsole update

* I just replaced the hard disk, and it took slightly longer to YLOD out
* Just then, it only took 1 second for YLOD

Bumped^ as this is a very short-term problem that ideally needs to be fixed ASAP by either myself of one of you guys!

^ The YLOD was actually solved with the reflow, so there was my answer. Only issue now is that the PS3 won't boot into recovery menu, and it boots with no video output!

^ And on the next boot attempt, guess what? YLOD.
