You won't get banned for going online, but I would advice you not to play mw3, black ops2 mods online or any future new modded games.
I would would only go online for syncing trophies if you have friends that you may want to compete with Smile

You will get banned for going online with a CFW unless your super careful.
But now you can get all games dlc and updates off web.
I find it best to have a OFW and CFW so best of both worlds.
