You really should do some research before opening your PS3.. If by "old models" you mean fat PS3s, be prepared for a shock. Most fat models will not work with the E3. Regardless, look on the back of the PS3. You have your serial number, then a dash with a set of letters and numbers starting with something similar to "CECH 01 blah blah" What are those numbers for both consoles?

Both of my ps3 are cechl01.
