look at charts of ur system type and if it is a fat ps3 then yes or a old slim yes cause the update has nothing to do with ur system

Yes ^ agreed. It depends on your system model. Look on the back of your PS3 and there should be something that looks like a bar code. Ge the # off of that and check google to see if it is compatible to downgrade.
