I get ethernet is not connected or the other ps3 isn't on?

It is your setup. Make sure that your ethernet cable is connected. What I do when I get that is I make sure to start them almost at the exact same time, but start my JB PS3 1/2 a second faster.

Then you have to format your JB PS3. That's how I got mine to work. BTW IT WILL DELETE EVERYTHING!
