Post: Which CFW for PS3
09-18-2013, 11:48 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My old Fat 60GB ps3's Disc drive died years ago and I got it out today, turns out it's on OFW 3.15 so installing CFW should be piss, anyone have a good guide, some tips or warnings about what I'm about to do. I'm just gonna use it to pirate and play games so is there a firmware that's good for that?

Needless to say if you give me the info I'm looking for I will +rep you and thank you.

I would first update to 3.55 CFW to QA flag your machine.

Rogero 3.55CFW(Spoofed to 4.XX): You must login or register to view this content.
QA flag: You must login or register to view this content.

Second, verify that QA flag is enabled by going to network settings and pressing the same time, it should give you new options:
L1 + L2 + L3 (press left stick) + R1 + R2 + dpad down
Be sure to enable in Debug settings>System Update Debug> switch to on.

Last, I would update to the most current CFW which is 4.46. Either choose Rogero or Rebug (most popular CEX)
Rogero 4.46 v1.01:You must login or register to view this content.
Rebug 4.46:You must login or register to view this content.

Use multiman 4.46 to copy and play backup games and also so it can be used on 4.46 CFW: You must login or register to view this content.

Cheers, but all those links are flagged for hotlinking. You got the links to the original sites?

Anyone have a step by step guide to follow I've looked around the net and can't find a decent one. The thread above is good for getting all the stuff but as a guide, it's not thorough enough.

So far I understand that I need to update to 3.55 CFW (It is custom right, not official? The other thread says you need to be on official firmware 3.55 so can someone link me to the correct version?) and you simply do this by what sticking it on a usb in a folder called PS3 > .... then just install via the install by storage media option?

From there you then select the latest CFW that you want and install it?

Really I thought it would be similar to PSP where you just jailbreak it then load the games you want on it via memory stick and play them off the Hard drive?

First, let me apologize for not reading your thread carefully. I miss the part about your blu-ray not working. So, let me say that you cannot run QA flag on your machine since it requires a working blu-ray to work. So forget that part.

Second, sorry for not being thorough and not providing step by step. (I forget some people need their hand held)
In order to install CFW, download the file and then rename it to PS3UPDAT. Now, get a USB and on the root make a folder called PS3, then inside that folder make another folder called UPDATE. Inside UPDATE, place the PS3UDPAT.
Now turn on PS3 and placed the USB in the USB slot. Go to Settings and go to System Update.
Install and in few minutes you should be running CFW.

CFW=Custom FirmWare
OFW=Official FirmWare

And why would you wanna be on 3.55 OFW?
You dont need to go onto 3.55OFW to go to CFW. Since, you're on a lower Firmware, you can just update it to the current CFW.

Here are the original links =P

Rogero 3.55 CFW v3.7:You must login or register to view this content.
Rogero 4.46 CFW :You must login or register to view this content.
Rebug 4.46 CFW : You must login or register to view this content.
Rebug QA: You must login or register to view this content. (can't use since you blu-ray is fucked)

I had PS3 with no blu-ray and I was able to play SOME backup games BTW. Games like COD BlackOps 1 & Dead Island Riptide need a disc in the drive to run.
