I recently got 3 ps3s from someone who didn't need them and they're updated to 4.50. I just want sombody to clear things up for me. So from what I understand, DEX is a demonstration mode cfw? and cfw is custom firmware (homebrew, free games shit like that) I've had a 3.55 cfw ps3 before but then sold it. I need someone to lead me in the right direction of putting a cfw on a 4.50 ofw ps3 is it possible? what do I need? thanks everyone .

DEX = developer firmware
CEX = regular firmware
CFW = custom firmware

You can't put CFW or DEX on any PS3 over 3.55 firmware, unless you downgrade with an E3 flasher.
There's a new "ODE" device (modchip) by Cobra and E3 that let you run ISOs and certain homebrew apps on any firmware though, I believe.

Thanks for clearing up everything for me, now I feel like I can get back to things. Would a E3 NOR Flasher be what I need for a downgrade?

Depends on what model your PS3 is (the super slims can't be downgraded).
