how do you create the npdrm_fself, compressed or uncompressed? i would try both options.
and has it any updates installed? if so, these need converting, too. if there is edata it may also need converting to free or debug

and if it still fails, try to convert the game to disc based game and make a normal fself.

you have to copy/cutnpaste the game to your backups folder and create inside that ID folder the folder "PS3_GAME" and put everything inside this folder. you may have to copy over a "PS3_DISC.SFB" file from another game to main folder and edit the ID inside the file with hexeditor (that is if you are using iris manager or ita manager)

so it looks like this:
NPUB30251
-PS3_DISC.SFB (only for iris and co and modified ID)
---PS3_GAME
----TROPDIR
----USRDIR

if there are files called .edat you have to convert them to free or debug also with TA_EDAT_rebuilder.

edit
i would also try to rename the string "dev_bdvd" inside the eboot to "app_home" and retry

What do you use to open the eboot and rename that?
