Ok, first things first.

-Multiman, is the backup manager you have installed on your system, correct? That program basically allows you to launch your backups from the internal HDD (Hard Drive) or a USB one. Internal seems to work better but that's your call on what you decide to use. Second, if you want to put your current discs into HDD form, you will need to install them. To do this, first launch Multiman, put a PS3 disc in, select the game from Multiman and hit "Backup". This will take a little bit as PS3 games usually range from the 5 GB to 15GB range. I recommend you install the latest Multiman update for maximum compatibility with newer and older titles.

-With downloading free games, you'd probably need to go a torrent site for that, as I think NGU doesn't support open discussion on piracy, just do a Google search for your game and a torrent. Easy. In your case, I think the games will be installed in "GAMEZ" folder on the root hard drive directory of your PS3, this should have been already made when you installed your firmware. (Root = First level of the hard drive, no folders)

-RTM stands for Real Time Modding, this currently can be done on a CEX console or a DEX console. On CEX, you will need to install the CCAPI plugin for your games. This is an easy one-time install, but you have to do it every time you flash a new firmware over.
The link for that program is here: You must login or register to view this content.

-In addition to installing CCAPI on your console, you will need a DEBUG EBOOT (EBOOT is the main .EXE of the PS3 game, for lack of a better comparison) of the game you want to RTM, this is basically an altered version of the retail EBOOT that allows connections from outside of the console, mainly from the console to your computer. You will need to find these on your own, because they are different from game to game. You will need the latest update EBOOT for your game and it has to be debugged for it to work. I recommend installing the latest update then just overwriting the EBOOT over FTP.

-Putting files on the CFW is kinda vague, but I think I understand what you're talking about. The easiest way to do this is over FTP (File Transfer Protocol), this can be done wirelessly or wired, but you have to be on the same network as your PS3 system to do it. For starters, Multiman is already an FTP client in itself, you just have to enable it in the settings. Look for "Enable FTP" in the settings if it isn't already enabled. Once that's done, I recommend you download Filezilla (a well-known FTP client that allows the transfer to happen from your computer to your PS3) To connect over FTP, you will need to know your PS3's IP address. This is easy and Multiman will let you know what your IP address is by looking up the information in "System Information". Look for it in Multiman.

-Finally, for MW3 modding/mod menus, you will need to understand how the PS3 file system works. Each game has it's own program folders and files, much like your programs do on Windows or Mac. You will need to locate the USRDIR folder in each game and overwrite whatever file the mod asks for in order to do this. The mod download page should tell you what to change and where to install your files. Again, this can be done over FTP.

Hope I answered at least some of your questions. Poke around the forums and see what you find. Remember, searching is best thing you can do. And give a thanks if I helped you out.

Thinks that I have and recommend you to get!
-Multiman;
-PSNPatch;
-PSNinja;
-CCAPI;
-Spoofer;
-BlackB0x;

You can download games from thepiratebay , kickasstorrents and ps3iso.

For mw3 modding you should get a good rtm tool.
