Post: Clarification on some things? Eboots and QA toggles?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I have a few questions for anyone who wants to help a bro out. Hopefully I don't come off as too noob-ish. I really try to use search engines and solve my problems on my own first, but for some reason I can't really wrap my head around these things.

My understanding of Eboots is that they're like executable (exe.) files for the ps3. I know that it used to be that you'd have to patch an eboot of a game to get it to play on a lower firmware than what the game launched on. I also heard that this really isn't an issue anymore because now multiman automates the process. (Right?) What I don't really get is why you'd want to patch an eboot for mods. What's the difference between modifying an eboot, and just replacing one of the game's assets with a modified version? Is one more detectable than the other? Or is it just a different way of accomplishing the same thing? (This might just be a problem with my understanding of the Ps3's file system.)

And lastly let's just say I'm on some 3.55 CFW firmware. I QA toggle it. Then I install some custom 4.XX firmware on top of that (besides DEX). Can I just reinstall that 3.55 firmware to go back to it? I wouldn't have to use any 999 downgrader or anything right?

Thanks guys. My goal is to one day not be a noob. Then I can help other noobs xD.
