If you can answer these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it:

1) What kind of firmware file do I need to get the PS3 jailbroken? I'm currently on official firmware 3.55
2)What are game fixes and where can I get them? I heard that new games won't work on older firmwares
3)Will spoofers make me able to get online?
4) Is it possible to mod games that are download instead of being on a disc?

I'm currently new to jailbreaking, so if you can help me out, that would be great. I need to know how to get started and how to install games for free

Well at this point to be up to date you will need 4.60CFW. Here is Habib's original post of 4.60 CFW You must login or register to view this content.
But, I'm using Rogero 4.55 CFW spoofed to 4.60

Very true that new games won't on older firmware Ps3s.
Game fixes is a patch that will let lower firmware PS3 play newer games that require a higher firmware.
One easy way to avoid this is to install the most up to date CFW or you the most current spoofer.

3)Will spoofers make me able to get online?

Yes, just make sure to have the CFW version that matches the spoofer. Spoofer require to run a certain FW version or CFW to actually work.

4) Is it possible to mod games that are download instead of being on a disc?

You can mod games either on disc or install in the HD

Alright thank you guys, but just one more thing; because its going to be likely that I will screw up, can I downgrade back to 3.55 Official Firmware if I'm on like a 4.60 Custom Firmware?
