if i got this ps3 but i updated the software to the newest one... can i just go in and change the ps3dat.pup file and downgrde or do i need the e flasher. it's either got 3.40 or 3.50 when it was first played but if i upgraded the new updates can i degrade it without buying a e flasher?

You need to be on 3.55 or lower to jailbreak. Anything above 3.55 you need a E3 Flasher.

it came factory with 3.50 and i just downloaded the 4.60 so there is no way to change it back via usb? lol i'm noobish at this sorry for the low level questions...

You can not downgrade OFW with merely a USB!
You will need a flasher to downgrade to jailbreak
