Will I have to format it to be on a CFW or will that not matter since it's only a HDD?

the only way you could have kept your stuff is if you saved the jailbroken one on a recovery usb drive, and then installed that recovery drive on your new ps3.

I've downloaded a cfw for the ps3 but it was actually 4.65 demonstration mode which I didn't know till after it finished. I backed up and restored it from my external HDD and got all my jailbreak files back but can't seem to get anything working because I get an error of 80010017. How can I fix this?
